His solo show is absolutely amazing. A true musician. Very entertaining the entire time.
I am really looking forward to seeing him. It should be quite the experience. I have never had the chance to see the SCG live so this will be a treat.

Detroit is too dangerous. Best to bask in the safety of the greater metropolitan area of NY; my comfort zone; my security blanket.
Besides my gun's in the shop.

have to plead ignorance here. i've heard of scg but haven't heard there music until just now on their website. what is interesting about them? it sounded like some classic rock/bad who/drunken slop rock. don't get all offended now. maybe i'm missing the point. my reason for asking is that i'm wondering if i should try to see bishop when he comes to denver(strangely enough, his name is not on the larimer lounge website. anyone?) so clue me in here as to why they are revolutionary, and why this show shouldn't be missed.
p.s. harlequin, what's your name? i too hail from houston and am curious.

harley
!? ouch man
as for sgm well man their combination of 'rock' and avant garde (to me) is pretty solid. i've heard that where they really really shine is live (i haven't seen them live b/c i suck). now i don't think the (short)samples do them justice. it's like trying to see if you like a drone album w/ a 30 second clip!?
i believe there is a full song mp3 from their first album somewhere... i'll have to look for you, so it might take a min.
i don't know w/ sgm it's pretty divided, people either like them or not. i like them
i'll get back to you w/ the sample...
cheers

I'm feelin' lazy... especially since I just woke up...
...so here is a Seattle Weekly article on the Sun City Girls...
http://www.seattleweekly.com/features/0415/040414_music_suncitygirls.php
Yes... you want to go see Sir Richard Bishop... his music and performance differ from the Girls... it's just beautiful improvised and written music for solo acoustic guitar with flamenco/gypsy/arabesque/indian raga elements thrown in plus the odd SCG melody...

how do i change my password from the temporary one that was given to me? hf, i didn't mean to offend with "harley"; i tend to shorten everyone's name. i didn't want an explanation so much as a "what draws us to them"-type affair. i think i'll check bishop out simply because of the recommendations i've heard and the eccentric nature of this group. yeah, the sgm talk threw me off. you should definitely see them if you can, although i liked there shows from the past couple years a bit better than now. but overall, good people, great songs, great performance. back to scg, i'm still confused as to why they don't have bishop's name on the larimer lounge website. odd.
there's some great stuff coming to the larimer lounge(tiny, gloomy denver club/bar) in the next couple months: hella, faun fables, melt-banana....yeefuckin'haw

Saw RB in Chicago last night. Great show. I found the crowd and opening acts a bit annoying but that is nothing new.
He played Vinegar Stroke, Esoterica of Abyssinia, Horse Cock, Morella (one of my favorites) and for an encore a medly that sounded like parts of Over the Rainbow/Nowhere Man/Wonderful World (I could be wrong, he had to use a different guitar for this one that didn't sound as clear).
Anyways, if you get a chance to check out one of his shows I would recommend it. He is incredible to watch, found myself hypnotized a few times.
There are a few european dates added as well.
Take care.
